2012 Senior National Championships

The 3rd annual TBNZ Senior National Championships were held at Tenpin Tauranga, where over 75 bowlers from around the country, including a small contingent from Australia, competed in singles, doubles, mixed doubles, teams and all events, all striving to make the masters on the last day and to find the 2012 National Champions for each division.
A lot of bowlers found the lane conditions very challenging with scoring not as high as previous years. Full results of each discipline can be seen on the results link below, however here is a summary of the all events and masters. In the graded men’s division Jim Knappstein topped the all events ahead of Ramon Tiu and Colin Hirst and in the women’s, Jacquie Meyer finished on top ahead of Barbara Morgan and Brenda Steele.
It was a close finish in the women’s open all events, with Lynnaire Churchill winning this by just 6 pins ahead of Annabelle Swain and Ina Young. Local bowler Phil Wright won the open men’s, just ahead of Wayne Booth and Fred Housham.
The 3 day event ended with the masters to find the 2012 National Champions and first up was the graded men’s and open women’s finals. The masters for graded men was won by Colin Hirst, with Ramon Tiu and Dennis Warrington finishing second and third respectively. In the National Champion standings Jim Knappstein took out the overall Title ahead of last year’s winner Colin Hirst, Ramon Tiu finishing third. In the women’s open division, Lynnaire Churchill won the masters ahead of Annabelle Swain and Ina Young, and in the race for the National Champion, Lynnaire Churchill also took out this title ahead of the same two women.
Up next was the graded women’s and men’s open final. It was a close finish for most positions in the women’s graded masters with Jacquie Meyer taking this out ahead of Brenda Steele and Barbara Morgan. Jacquie Meyer also took out the National Champion Title with Barbara Morgan finishing in second place and Brenda Steele third. In the men’s open division Roger Tucker held onto the lead for most of the tournament winning the masters ahead of German Ebue and John Bloomfield. The National Champion title again went to Phil Wright for the third year in a row just ahead of Wayne Booth with Roger Tucker.
