National Tour Final
The
last major tournament of the year was held
at Strike, Porirua over the weekend of December
10, 11. After 8 tour stops throughout the
North Island, most of the top bowlers contested
for the overall National Tour Champion for
each of the divisions.
On the first day all competitors bowled on
a short condition and for most of them, found
it difficult, with the scores reflecting this.
The second day was then contested on a longer
pattern and by the end of this, the top 4
bowlers from each division were found. From
this point on, they bowled a match play format
with two different patterns on each lane.
James Kelly and David Davies contested the
final, in the open division with David Davies
eventually winning two out of 3 games. In
the women’s, Sarah Young competed against
local bowler Brooke Malone, winning this in
two games. German Ebue and Wayne Booth contested
the senior’s final with German, easily
winning this. In the youth division, Adrian
Hoggard and William wells fought it out over
3 games with Adrian eventually coming out
the victor.
The junior final also went to three games
between Josh Stretton and Alex Harman with
Josh winning this.
All the finalists then bowled one game to
find the overall National Tour Champion, Sarah
Young from Auckland, easily winning the Grand
Tour Champion Title.

Coke
HighRoller
The
2011 Coke High Roller tournament was held
at Strike Entertainment Lower Hutt over the
weekend of November 25-27. As a 'high roller'
type event, lane conditions were more challenging
than some recent events, so the scoring pace
overall was generally lower.
The
unique format of this event has most finalists
qualifying by their highest individual game,
with only the highest male and female series
earning qualifying outside of the high game
list. 4 spots in the final were reserved for
bowlers with entering averages under 175,
to give them some experience of a higher level
final.
David
Davies took the male high series spot in the
final with a 1377 series over 6 games (231
average), and Stephanie George took the female
high series spot with 1099 over 6 games. Jason
Waters topped the high game list with 267,
followed by Dion Leslie (265) and William
Wells (257). The high game score required
to qualify for the final in the Open division
was 234. Coco Tuason topped the <175 qualifying
list with a 232 game.
In
the finals, there was a cash payout for the
bowler bowling the highest game, each game.
If the highest game was 10 or less pins higher
than the next highest game, then half the
payout was paid to the bowler, and the other
half jackpotted to the next game. The challenging
nature of the conditions meant that no games
over 250 were bowled, and resulted in a lot
of games being won by less than 10 pins, and
a lot of jackpots.
As
the winner of the most money in the final,
David Davies was declared champion, followed
by Dion Leslie and David Brown.
Full
results can be viewed here.
National Bowling Tour Stop
7 - Hutt Valley
The
7th stop of the National Tour was held at
Strike Entertainment Centre, Hutt Valley,
Wellington, over the weekend of November 4-6.
The lane conditions were highly conducive
to high scores. Given that it was Guy Fawkes
weekend, this seemed ironically appropriate,
and led to plenty of fireworks on the lanes.
Rachel
Boswell, Stephanie George and Sarah Young
led the qualifying for the Junior, Youth and
Ladies divisions respectively. Wayne Booth
and Phil Wright both topped the 1300 mark
in leading the qualifying for the Senior Division.
In the open division Chris Haynes, David Brown
and Adrian Judd all topped the 1400 mark (233
average) and the mark to make the masters
was 1300+. Chris Haynes bowled over 800 for
his first 3 games of qualifying.
 |
In
the Masters, all sorts of records were
set. Alex Harman pipped Josh Stretton
at the post in the in the Junior Division,
ahead of Ash Ball finishing 3rd, with
all 3 bowlers managing 1 game of 200+.
In the Youth division, Blake Brooks
won comfortably from Kaleb Allardyce
and Jordan Tuite, with all 3 bowlers
averaging over 200+. Sarah Young (pictured,
centre) prevailed ahead of Tanya Allardyce
in a very close finish with in the Ladies
division, ahead of Ashley Lorigan. Again
all 3 bowlers averaged 200+.
In the Open division, Jason Waters continued
his excellent run of late, winning ahead
of Daniel Simon and Adrian Judd in what
was a very closely fought and very high
scoring masters event. The lead seemed
to change every game, with the top 5
bowlers averaging 220+. Jason averaged
over 236 per game, yet he still lost
5 games out of 11. It was common for
bowlers to bowl games over 230 and still
lose. There were 5 games bowled over
270+, including a 300 game by Daniel
Simon, during the masters. |
But
the fireworks weren't finished yet. In the
Senior Division, Phil Wright and Wayne Booth
had a ding dong battle, both bowlers averaging
220+, and eventually finished tied for first
place. Allan Heald finished a distant 3rd.
In the playoff game, Phil Wright eventually
prevailed in a very close battle, 204-194.
Full
results can be found here.
The
8th and final stop is at Pins Lincoln in Auckland,

New
Zealand Team for the VI Commonwealth Tenpin
Bowling Championships
Having successfully
bid for the hosting rights for the 2012 Commonwealth
Tenpin Bowling Championships (“CTBC”)
to be held at Pins Lincoln in February 2013,
TBNZ has reviewed the selection criteria for
the New Zealand team who will earn the opportunity
to represent our country on home soil for
the first time. The New Zealand Team Selection
Policy Criteria provides that the top two
males and females available from the New Zealand
rankings at 31 December of the year prior
to the tournament will be selected for the
New Zealand team. TBNZ has determined that
for the VI CTBC the rankings cut-off date
will be 31 December 2011 for the following
reasons:
| •
|
The
VI CTBC was scheduled to be held in 2012
and due only to time constraints and a
packed calendar in the second half of
2012 the Championships have been delayed
by a few months and will be held in February
2013, rather than at the end of 2012 as
previously envisaged; |
| •
|
The
team details will be required to be submitted
to the organising committee before 31
December 2012; |
| •
|
Had
the VI CTBC not been going to be held
in New Zealand the rankings cut-off date
for selection would have remained 31 December
2011; |
| •
|
When
the 2010 CTBC were delayed from 2010 until
February 2011 the ranking cut-off date
of 31 December 2009 remained; |
| •
|
All
athletes in New Zealand were aware on
1 January 2011 that the CTBC is a bi-annual
Championship and then next Championships
were scheduled for 2012 and therefore
knew that they needed to be ranked in
the top two males or females at 31 December
2011 to earn selection for the 2012 CTBC |

are in contention to be part of the Commonwealth
Championships team abstained from any discussions

SENIOR NATIONAL’S
at Rooty Hill, Sydney Australia
The
NZ Senior Team started their bowling on the
8th October 2011 at Rooty Hill Sydney Australia.
The first Tournament entered was the Australian
Senior National Championships. Our athletes
entered the Classic, A and B Grades accordingly
with their TBNZ Averages. The Tournament finishes
later this month.
The bowling started out a bit slow as our three
new “Rookies” found their feet with
the newness of the centre, the tournament and
the anticipation of doing well; not only for
their Country but also for themselves, and the
thought of getting to know other bowlers was
a daunting task for some.
The Medium Lane Pattern being used holds up
very well and a good shot could be had for those
that were consistent, accurate and kept their
game plan simple. And as with any good foundation
skills that were NOT implemented the spares
became elusive for many. However our bowlers
did very well in this area “most of the
time”.
As the days progressed and the success started
rolling in - our athletes began to build their
confidence and forge game plans for future play.
But the LANES (ever the fickle mistress) kept
changing and changing and those that were the
fastest to read the lanes were the ones that
kept abreast of the others.
The Senior Cup: 3 Women and 4 Men made the top
24 cut for the playoff of the Senior Cup. One
of our ladies however had to pull out due to
illness. Though no one made the top 8 Finals
the athletes gained insights into their own
game and learnt much about themselves and their
need for a higher level of foundation skills
and to strengthen their knowledge base.

National
Bowling Tour Stop 6
Round 6 of the
National Bowling Tour took place at AMF Panmure,
September 23-25th. Compared to other tour stops
the conditions were challenging for most bowers
and this was reflected in the lower than normal
qualifying scores. Qualifying took place on Friday
and Saturday with top qualifiers in each division
being Greg Nicolas, Sarah Young, Fred Housham,
Williams Wells and Joshua Stretton.
The first of the Masters was held Saturday afternoon
for the junior division, where Sean Powell took
out the title ahead of top qualifier Joshua Stretton,
Ayron Williams finishing third. With day light
saving starting on Sunday it was an early start
for both the open and ladies divisions. World
Cup and Rachuig representative Julieanne Mollet
took out top honours in the ladies, just ahead
of Melonie Lister with Sarah Young another Rachuig
representative finishing third. At the same time
the Open division was being contested with Adrian
Judd eventually taking out this title ahead of
Jason Waters, both Rachuig representatives, Sonny
Reguerra finishing third.
 |
Next up was both the seniors and youth
divisions and this saw Andy Lee in the
youth, completely dominating the Masters
finishing in first place 245 pins ahead
of Williams Wells with Paul Housham finishing
third. In the seniors, Wellington bowler
Greg Nicolas won this just ahead of NZ
Seniors representative Terry Mustchin,
Alain Cossardeaux finishing third.

Tauranga Senior Series.
The spring tournament
of the Senior Series at Tauranga was held over the
weekend of September 17, 18. This was the 3rd and
final one for 2011 and this time around 20 bowlers
from the North Island contested the 18 game format.
In a reversal from last time everybody bowled 10
games on the long oil condition on Saturday. This
pattern was conducive to high scoring for most bowlers
and again Phil Wright show his dominance and finished
on top for the men with a 229 ave for the first
day. Sue Lock bowled well and finished on top for
the ladies with a healthy 192 ave.
The second day was always going to be the challenging
condition with more oil along with a shorter pattern.
Only 7 bowlers bowled a higher ave compared to the
day before, however this evened the field out. In
the men’s division Terry Mustchin made his
move to try to catch Phil Wright, however Phil stayed
ahead of the field all day and ended up the victor
ahead of Terry Mustchin with Fred Housham finishing
third. Sue Lock managed to hang on to the top spot
despite a strong challenge from Rhonda Colyer with
Sandy Hoare finishing third.
2011 Waitakere Masters
In a new and exciting format the inaugural Waitakere
masters was bowled at Pins Lincoln, September 10th.
Qualifying started 3 weeks before to find the top
24 bowlers to contest the final. The final was bowled
on a 40 foot oil pattern and the new format consisted
of everybody bowling head to head best of five matches.
This tested a lot of bowlers but proved to be exciting
to watch with top scores bowled. After 3 rounds
of match play where a lot games went to the full
5 games, the top bowlers were found to contest the
semi-finals. Craig Nevatt and Jason Waters went
to just 3 games with Craig winning and progressing
to the final. While this match was being bowled
the other two semi-finalists, Adrian Judd and Sonny
Reguerra faced off. This match also just went to
3 games with the second game being a strike fest,
Judd, 269 to Reguerra, 253.
In the final, Adrian Judd won the first two games
with Craig Nevatt fighting back and winning the
third, Adrian Judd eventually winning the fourth
and talking out the title of the first Waitakere
Masters.
Note:
Craig also picked up the 7-10 split during the
finals.
New Zealand Team Selection
Criteria Policy
Due
to a variety of suggestions pertaining to National
Squads and teams being raised in recent months the
TBNZ Management Team has deemed it necessary to
make amendments to the New Zealand Team Selection
Criteria part way through the year. Whilst none
of these amendments will affect any New Zealand
Teams travelling overseas for the remainder of 2011,
they will take effect early in 2012 and therefore
it was deemed necessary to ensure that everyone
was made aware of the changes as early as possible.
The key changes relate to the following:
| • |
The
establishment of a selection policy for New
Zealand Teams attending the Open Combined World
Championships and its associated qualifying
tournaments;
|
| • |
The
reduction of the Youth age group to under 21
as at the 1st of January of the current year.
This will apply from 31 January 2012;
|
| • |
An
increase in the length of entitlement to a position
in National Squads, with immediate effect;
|
| • |
The
entitlement for the top two (2) Youth bowlers
from the Youth Rankings at 31 December to join
the National Adult Squad the following year.
This will apply from 31 December 2011. |
The
Youth age restriction has been changed to bring
New Zealand back into line with the International
standard which has gradually changed over the last
couple of years. All other changes are focused on
developing more athletes at a higher level to continue
to improve New Zealand’s performance at International
Championships. For more information please refer
to the minutes
of the last management meeting and the updated New
Zealand Team Selection Criteria.
National
Bowling Tour – Stop 5
Manukau Super Strike
was the venue for the National Bowling Tour stop
5. Having no idea what the lane condition was for
the weekend prior or during the tournament, the
turnout of bowlers from all over the North Island
experienced challenging conditions that did offer
scoring opportunities to the bowlers that could
recognize the rapid transitions and make adjustments
accordingly.
The top qualifiers in each division were David Davies
with a 1386, Julieanne Mollet, 1193, Roger Tucker
1242, Andy Lee, 1253, and Sean Powell with a 969
to top the Juniors.
While Squad F was being held, where bowlers have
the last opportunity to qualify for the finals in
their respective divisions, the Junior Masters were
held. Rachel Boswell took out top honours in this
ahead of Sean Powell and Aryon Williams respectively.
 |
On
a cold Sunday morning, both the Open and Ladies
contested the master’s finals, with
some great scores being bowled including a
300 game from Jason Waters.
Jason went on to win the Open division with
an impressive 223 average just ahead of Adrian
Judd, and Craig Nevatt. In the Ladies division,
Sarah Young pulled off the win with a narrow
margin of just 8 pins ahead of Laura Sinclair,
Ashley Lorigan finishing 3rd.
|
After
Lane conditioning, the tournament was concluded with
the Senior and Youth divisions. Current Youth National
Champion William Wells took out top honours ahead
of National Youth Masters Champion Blake Brooks, with
Adrian Hoggard finishing third.
In the Seniors, newcomer into
this division Terry Mustchin, won this title ahead
of Roger Tucker with Tony Rollo finishing third.

Youth Teams Champs
| The
2011 National Youth Teams Champs were held
at Bowlarama Newtown over July 22-23, and
some exciting competition was witnessed.
On
the first day of competition on a short pattern,
a 4 horse race developed between the defending
champs North Harbour, the returning teams
from Auckland and Tauranga, and Lincoln. At
the end of day 1 North Harbour and Auckland
were tied, with Tauranga a very close 3rd
only 2 points behind, and Lincoln a further
3 points back.
On
to day 2, and competition moved to a long
oil pattern. The morning session was very
closely fought, with the lead seemingly changing
with each game. At the lunch break North Harbour
were once again tied with Auckland, with Tauranga
still only 2 points back. However the afternoon
held some swings in fortune for all teams,
and North Harbour held on to take the title
by 3 points ahead of Tauranga, with Auckland
3rd.
The
all stars team comprised Angela Boswell, Laura
Sinclair and Ashley Lorigan, William Wells,

VIA ELITE CLASSIC 2011
Bowlarama
Newtown was the venue for the 3rd annual VIA Elite
Classic, over the weekend of July 8-10. This years
event featured a brand new 3 way head to head Matchplay
format, that gave more bowlers the opportunity to
compete in Matchplay.
Day
1 of qualifying was held on the Long oil pattern.
Carl Mollet showed how things should be done on this
pattern, averaging 220 to lead the qualifying after
day 1, ahead of Chris Haynes and Tim Swain.
Day
2 of qualifying was held on the Short oil pattern.
Kurt Sturgess was the best bowler on this pattern,
averaging 213, ahead of Terry Mustchin and Adrian
Judd.
At
the end of qualifying, Chris Haynes was still on top
with an overall average of 214, ahead of Wayne Booth
and Carl Mollet.
On
to the Matchplay, held on the Medium oil pattern,
and pinfall from the qualifying carried through to
the matchplay. Julieanne Mollet & Terry Mustchin
came through the field to join Chris Haynes in the
top 3 to contest the stepladder, with Terry averaging
about 220 apiece. Craig Nevatt also mounted a charge
from the back of the field, averaging 218, but just
finished short of the Top 3 Stepladder.
As
2nd and 3rd seeds, Julieanne and Terry contested the
first game of the stepladder, with the winner to challenge
top seed Chris Haynes for the title. Julieanne and
Terry both finished with 175, so we had a 2 frame
playoff. Terry won the playoff 29-28, but required
a lucky spare of the 1-2-10 on his last shot to win,
and move on to the title match against Chris Haynes.
In
the title match, Chris continued his domination of
the event, winning 198-182.
The
final placings in the top 3 were as follows:
1st
– Chris Haynes
2nd – Terry Mustchin

2011
TBNZ National Championships
Pins
Lincoln Road, Auckland was the venue for the 2011
TBNZ National Championships, where bowlers from Auckland
to Invercargill competed in singles, doubles, mixed
doubles and teams. The best in the singles, doubles
and teams disciplines then competed in the Masters
to find the 2011 National Champions from the graded,
ladies and men’s divisions.
The lane conditions totally dictated lower scores
in comparison to previous years, most bowlers finding
it difficult. However this leveled the playing field
across all 3 divisions with no one bowling over a
200 scratch ave in the all events. Full scores and
results can be found on the link below for all divisions
in each discipline.
The Masters on sunday was hard work for all involved
and only one bowler averaged over 200 scratch. The
men were first up on Sunday morning and only 155 pins
separated 1st and 16th when they first started out,
however this soon changed dramatically with only one
bowler leading from start to finish.
Craig Nevatt took out both the Masters and the National
Championship race winning his first National Champion
title in style, adding to his world cup victory earlier
bowled this year. Sonny Reguerra and David Davies
finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively in both the Masters
and the National Championship.
 |
The graded and the ladies divisions were up
next in the afternoon and 12 year Michelle Powell
showed them all that age was not a factor winning
both the Masters and National Champion titles
in the graded division, her beaming smile reflecting
to all us, how she felt. Edwin Osa and Grant
Rollo finished 2nd and 3rd in the masters with
Gordon Glas and Edwin Osa 2nd and 3rd respectively
in the National Championship.
|
The ladies division was a close finish in the Masters,
with Sarah Young taking out this title ahead of Melonie
Lister and Angela Boswell.
The National Champion was basically decided half way
through the competition with Melonie Lister winning
the title ahead of this years world cup winner Julieanne
Mollet, Sarah Young finishing third.

National
Bowling Tour Stop 4 – Porirua
Strike
Porirua was the venue for the 4th stop of the National
Bowling Tour, held over the weekend of May 13-15.
The lane conditions were set up so that if you were
consistent and accurate with your shot execution and
made the right adjustments, some huge scores were
on offer. However if you weren’t consistent
and accurate, or you made the wrong adjustments, you
paid the price.
Carl
Mollet and Greg Nicolas set the early qualifying pace
in the Open division on Friday, both averaging 215+,
and were never bettered. Craig Nevatt qualified 3rd
with a 212 average. Tanya Allardyce topped the Ladies
qualifying with a 199 average ahead of Stephanie George
and Dairne Kaimoana, whilst Stuart Cunningham led
the Seniors field with a 204 average, ahead of Macca
Manawaiti and Fred Housham.
Tim Swain (pictured) had the high game of the tournament
288.
Andy
Lee found his way to the top of the Youth qualifying
with a 216 average, closely followed by William Wells
on a 213 average. Kaleb Allardyce was 3rd with a 202

the field with a 173 average, followed by Alex Harman
and Rachel Boswell. Rachel continued her good form
in the Junior masters, winning with a 175 average
ahead of Kieran Davis and Alex Harman.
On
to Sunday, and some huge scores & battles were
witnessed by those who were in attendance. David Davies
struck a real purple patch of form to win the Open
masters with an amazing 236 average, all 11 games
were over 200. However, this was not a one horse race,
Craig Nevatt mounted a huge challenge and eventually
finished 2nd with a 223 average. Nathan Berry finished
3rd with a 209 average.
Dairne
Kaimoana prevailed in the Ladies masters with a 200
average, ahead of Annabelle Swain and Kelly Wilson.

bowler in the Senior masters, winning with a 205 average,
ahead of Roger Tucker and Allan Heald.
William
Wells made sure he was going to win the Youth masters,
jumping out to a huge early lead, averaging 250 for
the first 4 games. William eventually won with a 222
average, well ahead of Andy Lee and John Miklos.

2011 National Team Championships
Tauranga
played host this year to the 2011 National Team Championships.
There were eight teams this time around, all from
the North Island with no teams representing the South
Island due to Mother Nature and recent events.
For the first time the teams event was bowled on three
different lanes patterns which proved to be challenging
for most bowlers, this was combined with bowling seven
games per day. The first day was bowled on a medium
pattern and by the end of the day all standings were
close. In the ladies standings there was only half
a point separating Wellington Kapiti-Mana and Wellington
South, Waitakere was third. The men’s standings
were just as close with 3 points separating the top
3 positions, North Harbour, Waitakere and Auckland.
Overall Waitakere lead by just one point ahead of
Wellington Kapiti-Mana and Auckland.
The second day was bowled on the most difficult condition,
short, and the scores changed significantly. By the
end of this day, standings also changed and last years
champions started to pull away in the overall standings.
Wellington Kapiti-Mana held onto second with North
Harbour third. The ladies of Waitakere took the lead
ahead of Wellington Kapiti-Mana and the local team
of Tauranga finishing third. As usual the rivalry
between Waitakere and Auckland in the men’s
division was heating up, Waitakere just ahead of Auckland
with North Harbour in third place.
The third day for both ladies and men’s came
down to the afternoon session with only a few points
separating first and second in both divisions.
The ladies wasn’t decided until the last game
in an exciting finish with Waitakere coming out the
victors just ahead of Wellington Kapiti-Mana, Tauranga
finishing third.
The men’s division also came down to the last
few games, with last years champions Waitakere eventually
taking out the men’s title ahead of Auckland
and Wellington Kapiti-Mana.
The
overall standings were a clear victory to Waitakere
for the 5th year in a row with Wellington Kapiti-Mana
ending up in second position and North Harbour third.
The
All Stars for 2011 in the women’s division are
Julieanne Mollet, Lynnaire Churchill, Dairne Kaimoana,
Ashley Lorigan and Laura Sinclair. The top five men
are Chris Haynes, Daniel Simon, Craig Nevatt (seven
years in a row), William Wells and Pete Richardson.

National Bowling Tour
Stop 3
Bowlarama
Newtown in Wellington was the venue for the 3rd stop
of the 2011 National Bowling Tour, over the weekend
of April 8-10. Lane conditions were conducive to high
scores for those bowlers that adjusted properly. This
was a surprise to most bowlers as the venue has a
reputation for tough lane conditions and low scores.
Local
bowler and recent High Roller champion Nathan Berry
showed his class in leading the Open field in qualifying,
with a 223 average, ahead of David Davies and Wayne
Booth. Stephanie George continued her recent run of
good form to lead the ladies qualifying with a 191
average, ahead of Tanya Allardyce and TJ Hirini.
Ron
Morgan showed us all a trick or 2 to lead the senior
qualifying with a 225 average, ahead of Wayne Booth
and Billy Te Tau. Stephanie George also led from the
front in the Youth qualifying, this time bowling a
196 average and qualifying ahead of William Wells
and John Miklos. Kieran Davis lead the Junior qualifying
with a 157 average.
In
the Masters, Alex Harman showed that he is one bowler
to watch out for in the future, winning the Junior
Masters with a healthy 174 average, ahead of Kieran
Davis and Clarisse Harman. William Wells also proved
that he is also no slouch with the bowling ball, winning
the Youth masters with a 204 average, ahead of Liam
Hunt and Anthony Carbonell. TJ Hirini won the Ladies
masters with a 195 average ahead of Stephanie George
and Tanya Allardyce.
In
the Open and Senior divisions, the bowlers really
put on a show for those spectators fortunate enough
to watch. Sonny Reguerra led from the front from game
4 in the Open masters and a 216 average was eventually
good enough to prevail in a tight race ahead of Tim
Swain and Adrian Judd. And Wayne Booth showed why
he was the man to beat in the Senior masters, shooting
a 221 average to win comfortably ahead of Allan Heald
and Fred Housham.

Next
stop is in Porirua, May 13-15.

QubicaAMF World Cup NZ Finals.
After 3 weeks of qualifying
30 bowlers converged on Pinz Lincoln Road, Auckland
to find one man and one woman to represent New Zealand
at the 2011 QubicaAMF World Cup.
The tournament was held over 2 day’s with 3-6
game blocks, 7 games of match play, all culminating
with a stepladder final. Lane conditions were conducive
to high scoring and bowlers and spectators were not
let down. The first 6 game block, David Brown, Craig
Nevatt and Melonie Lister were the top 3 bowlers;
this also included a 300 game from Lyall Lister. The
second block was no different with the top 3 bowlers,
Craig Nevatt, Daniel Simon and Clinton Beacham all
bowling over 1300, again Lyall Lister bowling the
high game with a 268.
The top 12 bowlers then moved on to the third block
with Clinton Beacham bowling a 299 game first up,
Clinton also went on to finish on top with Julieanne
Mollet and Adrian Judd close behind. From this block
the top 8 bowlers moved on to 7 games of match play
to find the top 3 bowlers to contest the stepladder
final, Craig Nevatt bowling the high game with a 268.
The three bowlers to contest the stepladder final
were separated by just 13 pins with Craig Nevatt finishing
on top by just one pin ahead of David Brown, Julieanne
Mollet finishing third.
David and Julieanne then went on to bowl for the right
to play Craig Nevatt for the title with David eventually
winning the match 234 to 193. Then came the final
and it started out strike for strike for the first
5 frames between Craig and David, the match ending
with Craig bowling a 263 to David’s 234, Craig
winning this tournament for the first time. With Julieanne
the highest female finalist for the second year running,
she now joins Craig as New Zealand’s representatives
at this years World Cup.

Subject: NZ Sports community - ChCh
Earthquake appeal
Hi
everyone,
We
are all saddened and concerned about what has happened
in Christchurch and our hearts go out to our family,
friends, work colleagues and the wider sporting community
who have been affected by this tragic event.
It
is heartening to see kiwis everywhere rallying to
help in the wake of the earthquake, and the sports
community is stepping up to play its part. It was
fantastic to see the Nick Willis athletic meet in
Wellington over the weekend raise $20,000 for the
Christchurch relief fund.
I
know many of you are reaching out, in your own way,
to help, but here is an opportunity to come together
as a sporting community to support our mates in Christchurch.
Today
(Tuesday March 1st ?) at 12:50pm, Radio Sport launched
an auction on Trade
Me,of sports goods and sporting memorabilia, with
the proceeds going towards the victims of the Christchurch
Earthquake, through Red Cross.
SPARC
is getting in behind the auction, and I urge you all
- sports organisations and sports fans - to do the
same.
Here’s
how it’ll work. A list of items will be on display
on Trade Me from today, and added to each day, with
the auction open for two weeks.
Here’s
how you can get involved.
Donate
something to the auction. Take a photo of it and send
it through to Chris Gregory at The Radio Network (ChrisGregory@radionetwork.co.nz).
Include a message to the victims of the quake from
yourself or your organisation. The actual items can
then be sent or dropped off to Dave Birnie, Level
3, Radio Network House, Cnr Abel Smith and Taranaki
Streets Wellington.
Check
out the auction on Trade
Me, bid on items, and tell your friends to as
well.
I
know all of you have memorabilia - signed balls, t
shirts, photos, playing gear etc ..........and other
items of value (maybe not to you, but to collectors
and fans). I urge you to donate and join the sporting
sector in raising money.
Here
at SPARC, we’ve decided to donate some of the
memorabilia athletes and teams have given to us over
the years in appreciation of our support – signed
photos, playing tops, singlets and sports gear etc
. Those sentiments have meant, and will continue to
mean, a lot to us. But we know those who have given
them to us would agree this is now the best use for
them.
New
Zealanders are passionate about sport, and Canterbury
is a proud sporting province. This is a great way
to raise money, which is so urgently needed by those
who’ve been affected by this terrible tragedy.
Thanks
for any help you can provide.
Kind
Regards
Peter

Honour scores in 2010
After
a complete absence of honour scores (300, 299 and
298 games, and 800+ series over 3 games) in New Zealand
in 2009, there has been a surge of honour scores in
2010. Whilst honour scores have happened in all parts
of the country this year, from Auckland to Invercargill,
the strongest concentration of honour scores is in
the Wellington area, particularly towards the end
of the year.
The
occurrences of honour scores in 2010 have been as
follows:
300
games: None in 2009, six in 2010, of which three have
been done in the last couple of months. Three of the
six 300 games have been bowled in Wellington, and
one was done in Australia. The others were bowled
in Invercargill and Tauranga.
299 games: None in 2009, one in 2010, at Tenpin Takapuna
298 games: None in 2009, none in 2010.
800+ series: None in 2009, two in 2010, both of which
were bowled in Wellington.
Full
details of all these games/series can be found on
the honour scores links on the tournament results
page, here..
Congratulations
to all bowlers who have achieved honour scores in
2010, we look forward to more in 2011.
2011 TBNZ Senior National Championships
After last year’s inaugural Championships, this
year’s tournament was anticipated to be bigger
and better and it certainly proved that with more
entries than 2010. With a few bowlers joining the
senior ranks for the first time, along with a larger
contingent of Australian bowlers crossing the Tasman
to participate in the 2011 Senior National Championships
it was a lot more competitive but still enjoyable
for all.
The lane conditions were fair for all bowlers with
the scores reflecting this. There were two divisions,
open and graded with the tournament kicking off Friday
afternoon and finishing early Sunday evening. Bowlers
contested singles, doubles, teams and all events,
culminating with the masters for both divisions, see
the below link for all results in each individual
event.
Results for the all events and masters are as follows:
All Events winners:
Maggie Richardson -Graded ladies/ Lito Crisostomo

Jeanette Baker - Open ladies/ Phil Wright - Open men
