National
Tour Stop 6 – Panmure The
6th and final stop of the National Bowling Tour was
held at AMF Panmure from November 21-23. As has come
to be expected at Panmure, lane conditions were challenging,
but rewarding to those bowlers who made good consistent
shots.
In
the qualifying stage, Julieanne Mollet showed her
experience to set the pace with 1227 (204 average),
81 pins clear of Bianca Tofilau with Belinda Tan coming
3rd. David Davies backed up his excellent form from
the Canterbury Open by shooting exactly 1300 (217
average), 31 pins ahead of Bryce Andrews on 1269 with
Craig Nevatt 3rd.
Phil
Wright topped the Seniors qualifying with 1192, Chan
Harris was 2nd with 1169 and Graham Parkins 3rd. Jordan
Pinker finished on top of the Youth qualifying with
1170. Kirk Delamore was 2nd only 16 pins back and
Mathew Toi 3rd.
On
to the finals. The Ladies final proved to be a very
close run event, with Julieanne Mollet eventually
being run down by a 257 game by Belinda Tan on the
last game. Megan Fletcher finished 3rd. Mathew Toi
prevailed in the Youth final, ahead of a fast finishing
Jordan Pinker and Paul Housham.
In
the Seniors Chan Harris pipped Ross Cooper at the
post for the win, with Stu Turnbull finishing 3rd.
In the Mens, Craig Nevatt jumped out to a massive
start and was never challenged, ending his long drought
between title wins. Jason Waters finished 2nd with
Tony Lum 3rd.
2008 Canterbury Open
The 2008 Canterbury Open was held at AMF Garden City
Bowl on Show Weekend (November 14-16), and attracted
an impressive turnout of bowlers from all around the
country – including 12 bowlers from Auckland.
The lane pattern that was described as ‘honest’,
this meant scores were nowhere near the heights reached
last year, but bowlers who were able to read what the
ball was doing and make the right adjustments were rewarded.
The champions in each section were as follows:

Congratulations
to all winners, and all other place-getters as well.
The tournament was conducted in excellent spirit by
all bowlers, everybody enjoyed themselves immensely.
The weather outside was also superb, with temperatures
hitting 30 degrees on Saturday and 26 degrees on Sunday,
blazing sunshine and not a drop of rain in sight. Classic
show weekend weather.

2008 QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Hermosillo,
Mexico
Congratulations to Adrian Judd, for qualifying for
the Top 24 playoff in the 2008 QubicaAMF Bowling World
Cup in Hermosillo, Mexico. AJ made a fantastic start
to the 4 day qualifying by shooting 1280 for 6 games
(213 avg) on Monday, and improved on that with 1328
(221 avg) on Tuesday to be sitting in 9th place. 1160
(193 avg) on Wednesday dropped AJ to 20th, but 1280
today, topped off with a 240 game to finish when the
pressure was on, moved AJ up to 18th. AJ finished
with a total pinfall of 5029 (210 avg) and was 40
pins clear of 24th place.
The
leader after 24 games is Derek Eoff from USA, with
a total pinfall of 5500 for 24 games, an average of
229. Zulmazran Zulkifli from Malaysia is 2nd with
5402 and Martin Larsen from Sweden is 3rd with 5326.
8th place is currently Francois Sacco from France,
with a total pinfall of 5260 at an average of 219.
Belinda
Tan has missed out on the top 24 in the Ladies division
but has finished in a creditable 29th place. She finished
with a total pinfall of 4678 for 24 games, an average
of 195, 124 pins behind 24th place. The leader is
currently Jasmine Yeong Nathan from Singapore, with
a total pinfall of 5477 (228 average), ahead of defending
champion Ann-Maree Putney in 2nd place and Helen Johnston
from Sweden in 3rd place.
AJ
has finished in a commendable 20th place, and he was
the first male from NZ to make the top 24 since David
Davies in 2001 in Thailand.

National Tour Stop
5 – Takapuna
The 5th stop of the 2008 National Tour was held at
Tenpin Takapuna on October 31-November 2. Given recent
history at Takapuna, the lane conditions were surprisingly
tricky and subsequently the scoring pace was unusually
low. However this made for some very exciting competition,
as the bowlers who made the correct adjustments to
constantly changing conditions prevailed.
The
scoring pace was set in qualifying by Scott Hooper
(210 average) in the men’s division, Belinda
Tan (192 average) in the women’s division, Ross
Cooper (204 average) in the Seniors division and Stephanie
George (195 average) in the Youth division.
In
the Masters events, Bianca Tofilau continued her total
domination of the Ladies division in the Tour events
she has entered, winning her 4th event of the year
out of 4 with a 193 average. Bonus points proved to
be the difference in a very tight photo finish here
as Ivena Heald finished with a higher average, but
with 2 less wins finished 2nd by 7 pins. Julieanne
Mollet was 3rd, only 5 pins further back.
Stephanie
George backed up her topping of the qualifying by
winning the Youth division with a 185 average, 24
pins ahead of Matthew Toi and 79 pins ahead of Angela
Boswell
Chan
Harris won his first event of the year in the Seniors
division with a 200 average, using bonus points to
pip Graham Parkins at the post by 7 pins. Phil Wright
was 3rd, a further 143 pins back.
The
mens Masters was a very tight event, with the lead
constantly changing on a game by game basis. However
Bryce Andrews proved he was the stayer in the field,
a 297 game in the penultimate game when he was already
in front left everybody else choking on dust, and
pulled him up to a 206 average after a very slow start.
Adrian Judd finished 2nd, 86 pins back, and David
Davies placed 3rd, a further 69 pins back.

entry forms and squad listings are now available here
for stop 6 at Panmure on November 21-23.
Kiwi
campaign at Australian Nationals – finished with
a bang. Whilst
the finish to Rachuig might have been a bit disappointing
(men finished 6th, ladies 4th, overall 5th), the final
event – the Australian Masters – was a
terrific success for New Zealand. Melonie Lister repeated
Dianne Robinson’s fantastic 2nd place in the
Women’s Masters in Hobart in 2006, sweeping
all opposition before her until the final, where she
came up against a red hot Anne-Maree Putney who is
the 2007 QubicaAMF Women’s World Cup Champion,
and was averaging 240+ in the masters. This is a magnificent
effort, congratulations Melonie.
Congratulations
also go to Sonny Reguerra who finished 5th= in the
Mens Division, and to Belinda Tan for finishing 9th=
in the Women’s division.
Full
results for the Masters, and all the other events
at the Australian Nationals, can be found here.
Regional Development Camps
Unfortunately
due to the prior commitments of the Level 2 and higher
Coaches willing to support the Regional Camp Initiative
it has become necessary for TBNZ to delay the implementation
of these camps until 2009. This decision has not been
made lightly but unfortunately the coaches willing to
volunteer their expertise to this initiative have already
made significant commitments to bowling for the remainder
of this year and it would be unreasonable to expect
them to commit any further time. TBNZ remains committed
to this initiative but without more volunteers it is
difficult to move forward with the development of tenpin
bowling in New Zealand at the speed which we would like
to.
Great start for NZ at Rachuig
NZ
has made a fantastic start to the Walter Rachuig Memorial
tournament at AMF Tuggeranong, Canberra. After the
first day’s competition the NZ Team sits tied
for first place in the Mens, Ladies and Combined divisions.
Russell Young is leading the All Stars race with a
massive 234 average from 4 games, and Belinda Tan
is sitting 2nd with a 215 average, also from 4 games.
In
the men’s division, the NZ team got off to a
sluggish start, losing to Queenland and Victoria,
but in bowling team games of 994 and 997 the team
put up a fight in both cases. But then the victories
came, over Tasmania (1063-972), ACT (1089-1035), New
South Wales (1033-1004) and Northern Territory (998-980).
The men’s team have won 25 points out of a possible
42, good enough for 1st equal with Western Australia.
In
the ladies division, the NZ team got off to a flyer,
beating Queensland 970-862, but then lost to Victoria
995-893. Victories then followed over Tasmania 968-948
and ACT 977-726 before a loss to New South Wales 998-892.
But the ladies finished off with a victory over Northern
Territory 1054-968 to finish with 28 out of 42 points,
again good enough for 1st equal with Western Australia.
The
Rachuig competition continues Wednesday and concludes
Thursday, live results can be found by clicking here.
NZ Victory in Australia
The
kiwi campaign at the Australian National Champs and
other associated tournaments at AMF Tuggeranong, Canberra,
have got off to a rip-roaring start. Fred Housham won
the mens section of the Australian Seniors Cup on Tuesday,
bowling a staggering 233 average in the match-play section,
and Ivena Heald and Ali Hayward won the Ladies Doubles
section of the Australian Seniors Challenge on Thursday.
Ivena Heald also bowled extremely well in the Seniors
Cup to finish 4th in the ladies section, and Phil Wright
finished a creditable 7th in the mens section of the
Seniors Cup.
The Seniors Challenge finishes with the teams today
(Friday October 17), but the Nationals continue through
next week, with the NZ Mens and Ladies teams competing
in the Walter Rachuig Memorial Trophy and the Australian
Masters.
More details to follow soon, results for all these tournaments
can be found by clicking here.

fourth with a 200 average, bowling nine 200 plus games
in the process. Zoe placed 36th with a 164 average.
The top 16 girls bowled the next day, 15 games of matchplay.
Bianca bowled a 197 average over the 15 games to eventually
place 6th, an outstanding effort amongst a strong field
of Australia's top junior bowlers.

National Youth Teams Champs
The
2008 National Youth Teams Champs was held at Bowland
Porirua, on October 3-4 2008. The Lane pattern was slightly
different from that used for the Junior/Youth Nationals,
but still rewarded good shot making and good adjustments.
Teams from North Harbour, Lincoln Road, Auckland and
Counties Manukau joined 2 teams from Tenpin Rotovegas
and 2 teams from Wellington. These included the development
teams “Rotovegas Rascals” and “Wellington
Strike”, whilst the “Rotovegas Rebels”
and “Wellington” were considered the top
teams from these areas.
The
first morning started out with quite a few surprise
results, with the Rotovegas Rebels trouncing Auckland
in Game 1, and Counties Manukau taking down Wellington.
The Rascals won the battle of the development teams
in Game 1 as well. The “upsets” continued
in Game 2 with the Rascals beating the Rebels, and
Wellington beating Lincoln Road. Game 3 saw Lincoln
Rd come back with a vengeance against Auckland, bowling
the highest team game of the tournament with 997,
the Rascals kept their good form up in beating Counties
Manukau, and Wellington beat the Rebels.
At
this point the Rotovegas Rascals were leading the
team standings with Lincoln Rd, and one could not
be blamed for believing that this tournament was going
to be a very tight race.
Into
the afternoon session, Lincoln Road continued their
comeback with a big win over the Rascals in their
top of the table match, and were soon into their stride
with more big wins over Wellington Strike, Counties
Manukau, and the Rebels throughout the day. This run
compiled an ominous 29 out of a maximum 32 points
in the afternoon, and had everybody else scrambling
for 2nd. Conversely the Rascals, who had been one-time
leaders, compiled only 4 points from 4 games in the
afternoon, this saw them tumble to 7th.
At
the end of Day 1 Lincoln Rd was leading from Wellington
and the Rotovegas Rebels were in 3rd.
Day
2 largely went to the form guide set on day 1, with
the exception of the Rascals winning against the Rebels
for the 2nd time in Game 10. The Rebels did get a
morale-boosting win against Lincoln Rd in Game 12,
Lincoln Rd’s first loss since Game 2. By then
they had won 27 from a maximum 32 points from the
4 games in the morning session, and the race for 1st
was over.
Lincoln
Road finished the tournament with a win over Wellington
Strike, and finished on 85 points, ahead of Wellington
on 69.5 points and Auckland on 60 points.
In
the All Stars, Angela Boswell from Wellington continued
her excellent form from the Nationals to win the ladies
all stars, ahead of Amanda Kebblewhite from Auckland
and Megan Fletcher from Lincoln Rd. Paul Housham held
up the flag for Counties Manukau, winning the Mens
All Stars ahead of Perry Chan & William Wells,
both from Lincoln Rd.
This
tournament was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone, and
conducted in excellent spirit by all involved. Next
year’s event is to be held at Tenpin Rotovegas,
October 2-3 2009.
Full
results can be found by clicking here.
Junior/Youth
Nationals The
2008 TBNZ Junior/Youth Nationals was held at Bowland
Porirua on September 30 to October 2, on conditions
that were challenging, but rewarded the bowlers who
adapted to the lanes quickly. This tournament comprised
5 sections of competition – Youth Mens and Ladies,
Junior Boys and Girls, and Junior Graded. Bowlers competed
in Singles, Doubles and Teams competition, and compiled
an All Events score which decided the bowlers that made
the Masters. The National Champion honours were decided
by combining scores from All Events and Masters.
In
the Youth Mens section, Corey Johnson won the Singles
convincingly, racking up a 1248 series over 6 games,
over 100 pins ahead of Jason Moka and Matthew Toi. Corey
then teamed up with Kirk Delamore to win the Doubles
ahead of Jason Moka & Paul Clements, and Matthew
Toi & Paul Housham. However, Jason Moka got one
back when he won the teams with Paul Clements, Perry
Chan & Jordan Pinker, ahead of Matthew Toi, Corey
Johnson, Kirk Delamore & Paul Housham. Paul Clements
and Jason Moka also teamed up with Craig Borthwick and
Jono Collier to finish 3rd. Corey
Johnson completely dominated the All Events, winning
ahead of Perry Chan and Matthew Toi, and continued this
domination in the masters, winning ahead of Paul Housham
and Perry Chan. Nobody could argue with Corey being
crowned National Champion ahead of Perry Chan and Paul
Housham. In
the Youth Ladies section, Angela Boswell won the singles
ahead of Zoe Godfrey and Katie Liu. Angela then teamed
up with Stephanie George to win the doubles ahead of
Kerrie Churchill & Julie Armstrong and Zoe Godfrey
& Stephanie George. In the teams event, Angela Boswell
teamed up with Julie Armstrong, Stephanie George &
Kerrie Churchill to win ahead of Zoe Wells, Laura Sinclair,
Katie Liu & Bianca Tofilau in 2nd place, and Megan
Fletcher, Zoe Godfrey, Ashley Lorigan and Mallory Carter
in 3rd. Angela
Boswell extended her dominance into the All Events,
winning ahead of Stephanie George and Zoe Godfrey. Zoe
got one back when she won the masters ahead of Katie
Liu and Kerrie Churchill. Angela’s 4th placing
in the masters was good enough to crown her National
Champion, ahead of Zoe Godfrey and Katie Liu.
In
the Junior Boys section, Blake Brooks set the tone for
the tournament when he won the singles ahead of Paul
Housham and Ethan McKay. Jason Scarfe & Adam Bradley
won the doubles ahead of Matthew Toi & Paul Housham,
who finished 2nd equal with Brent & Blake Brooks.
Jason Scarfe & Adam Bradley teamed up with Matthew
Toi & Paul Housham to win the teams ahead of Kieran
Davis, Kaleb Allardyce, Anthony Carbonell & Glenn
Armstrong in 2nd place, and Matt Williamson, Brad Simmons,
James Luxford and Zane Carlson in 3rd.
Blake
Brooks was consistent enough through the Singles, Doubles
and Teams to win the All Events ahead of Glenn Armstrong
and Paul Housham. Jason Scarfe came from 6th place in
the All Events to win the masters ahead of Blake Brooks
and Paul Housham, but Blake’s 2nd place was enough
for him to win the National Champion title ahead of
Jason Scarfe and Paul Housham. In
the Junior Girls section, Stephanie George got one back
on Angela Boswell by beating her to the Singles title.
Bianca Tofilau finished 3rd. Angela teamed up with Bianca
to win the Doubles ahead of Sam Mckay & Ashley Lorigan,
with Stephanie George and Rachel Boswell placing 3rd.
There were only 2 entries in the Teams event, with Angela
& Rachel Boswell joining forces with Stephanie George
& Bianca Tofilau to win ahead of Christine Volk,
Rachel Boswell, Saasha Richie & Anna Stratford.
Angela
Boswell kept up her own personal pace to win the All
Events ahead of Stephanie George and Bianca Tofilau,
but Bianca got her own name in lights by winning the
masters ahead of Angela Boswell and Stephanie George.
Angela’s 2nd place in the masters was good enough
to win the National Champion honours ahead of Bianca
Tofilau and Stephanie George. This
is the first time that the same bowler has taken out
the National Champion titles in both Junior and Youth
divisions, a huge effort by Angela Boswell that will
be very hard to beat in future. The
Junior Graded section saw a huge contingent of bowlers
from Canterbury, as well as a number of bowlers from
the new centre in Kapiti. As always, the Junior Graded
section was handicapped to give everybody an even
chance of winning.
Jarrod
Huss set a cracking pace in the Singles, winning ahead
of Navarone Hamilton and Harrison Clark. Casey Hodgkinson
& Mathew Thomas won the doubles ahead of Harrison
Clark & Shayden King, and Allanah Steele &
Melissa Revfeim placed 3rd. Jose Billington, Salem
Cook, Shinae King & Devlin Cook combined forces
to win the teams ahead of Matt Eller, Ben Strang,
Jarrod Huss & Jack Howard, with Andrew Noble,
Shayden King, Harrison Clark & Casey Hodgkinson
placing 3rd.
Jarrod
Huss continued the pace, winning the All Events ahead
of Navarone Hamilton and Shayden King. Jose Billington
came from 4th in the All Events to win the Masters
ahead of Salem Cook and Navarone Hamilton. This lead
to a photo finish in the National Champion race, with
only 14 pins separating 1st from 3rd. Jose Billington
just managed to hold off Jarrod Huss by 2 pins, with
Navarone Hamilton finishing 3rd, a further 12 pins
back.
Everyone
thoroughly enjoyed themselves at this tournament,
anticipation is already building for next years event,
to be held in Tenpin Rotovegas, September 29-October
1, 2009.

YOUTH PRIORITY FLAG FOR ANGELA BOSWELL
At
last weekends Melbourne Youth Cup, at AMF Moorabbin,
Angela Boswell placed 4th out of the 17 girls entered
to obtain a priority selection flag, the first for
a New Zealand Youth bowler for 2008. Angela bowled
a 192 average to place 24= overall (combined with
the boys) with a 1921 series for her 10 games, a great
achievement.
Jordan
Pinker finished in the prize money in 22nd place on
a 193 average with a 1935 series, only 9 pins from
the cut for the finals. Bianca Tofilau placed 36th
with a 185 average and also bowled the highest girl’s
game of 266. Stephanie George was 39th with a 183
average, Paul Housham 41st also with a 183 average,
Matthew Toi 43rd with a 181 average, Adrian Hoggard

average.

CEO ANNOUNCEMENT
The
board regrets to advise that the planned date for
Craig’s resignation to take effect has passed
and TBNZ still does not have a replacement CEO. To
prevent TBNZ being without a CEO, Craig has very generously
offered to stand in as a caretaker CEO until the earlier
of either the end of the year or when a new CEO is
appointed. The Board has gratefully accepted Craig’s
offer. In doing so, the Board wishes to make it clear
that this is as a caretaker role only and that “normal
service” can not be expected. The Board would
therefore like the support of all its members by limiting
all communications with Craig to only that which is
essential to keep the core functions of TBNZ operational.
Craig has agreed to extend his contributions despite
a very full personal international bowling calendar.
With this in mind, the Board has accepted Craig’s
offer on the condition that all members adhere to
an embargo of any “CEO” contact with Craig
during the “bowling” periods of 14 August
– 2 September and 16 October – 28 October
inclusive.
The
situation of not being able to recruit a suitable
replacement CEO is a huge threat to the well being
of TBNZ in its current form. There is not an easy
solution to this problem, or else it would already
be in place. During this next period, Craig, the Management
Team, and the Board will be considering all alternatives
that will enable TBNZ to continue to function in the
long term. The Board asks for the continued support
of all members as we try to work our way forward in
these difficult times. If you have any views which
you think may be helpful, please forward them to any
member of the Board
On
behalf of the Board

National Tour Stop 4 – Tauranga
The 4th stop of the National Bowling
Tour was held at Tenpin 13th Ave, Tauranga, over the
weekend of August 8-10. As is always the case in Tauranga,
the conditions were challenging, but rewarding to
those bowlers who could adapt quickly.
During the qualifying phase, Phil
Wright continued his dominance of the Senior section
from the Nationals and Tauranga Seniors tournament,
topping the qualifying with a 222 average. Stu Turnbull
was 2nd with a 200 average and Chan Harris was 3rd
with a 197 average.
Phil repeated his qualifying effort
in the Mens division, again topping the list with
a 222 average, ahead of David Davies on 217 and Bryce
Andrews on 216. Megan Fletcher finished up on top
in the Ladies section with a 206 average, ahead of
Melonie Lister on 201 and Jennifer Edwards on 191.
Jason Moka topped the qualifying in the Youth division
with a 194 average, ahead of Corey Johnston on 188
and Angela Boswell on 183.
The highest game bowled in qualifying
was a 264 by Adrian Judd.
In the Masters events, the Seniors
and Mens finals were held concurrently. Phil Wright
opted to bowl in the Senior Final, and continued his
total domination of the field. He emphasised this
with a 278 game in the last game, which brought his
average up to 222. Graham Parkins finished 2nd with
a 206 average and Stu Turnbull finished 3rd with a
205 average.
In the Mens section, Adrian Judd continued
his run of excellent performances from events earlier
in the year, winning with a 208 average ahead of Jason
Waters on a 207 average and Bryce Andrews on a 201
average. A massive 289 game in game 5 by Adrian Judd
proved to be the difference in the end.
In the Ladies section, Bianca Tofilau
proved once again that she is a bowler to watch in
the future, by bowling a 191 average and holding off
challenges from Melonie Lister and Ivena Heald (186
and 187 averages respectively)
In the Youth section, Angela Boswell
won her first national title, bowling a 196 average
and finishing ahead of Jordan Pinker (187 average)
and Corey Johnston (184 average).
All in all it was a very successful
tournament, and lots of fun was had by all competitors.
Bowlers now look forward to Stop 5 of the National
Tour, to be held at Tenpin Takapuna, on the weekend
of October 31-November 2

Councillor Margaret McKenzie, pointed to the province’s
growing international reputation for hosting successful
sporting events.
“In recent years, we have hosted a diverse range
of international sporting competitions, from the World
Cross Country Championships to the World Amateur Boxing
Championships, the Fencing Commonwealth Games and
the Women’s World Open Squash Championship to
last year’s IRB Under 19 World Championship.
“This year promises to be just as eventful,
with not just one but three major international competitions
– the World One Armed Golf Championships at
Dunmurry in June, the World Blind Golf Championships
at Belvoir Park in August and the Commonwealth Tenpin
Bowling Championships here at Dundonald in November.
“Of course, we cannot stage major competitions
like these without partnerships, and I am delighted
the Belfast City Council has been able to work with
our neighbours in Castlereagh to bring these Commonwealth
Championships to Northern Ireland.”
The Mayor of Castlereagh, Councillor Myreve Chambers,
added:
“Castlereagh
Borough Council is delighted to be staging another
prestigious bowling event at Dundonald International
Ice Bowl. The facility has previously hosted many
major bowling events, including a number of junior,
adult and senior Triple Crowns, which were eagerly
contended by teams across the British Isles and
Republic of Ireland, as well the unforgettable AMF
Bowling World Cup which saw more than 70 teams across
the globe competing for the title.
“We
have every hope that the Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling
Championship will be as successful, and we look
forward to working with both Belfast City Council
and the Northern Ireland Tenpin Bowling Federation
to ensure that every participant and their supporters
have an enjoyable visit.”
Billy
Beattie, President of the Northern Ireland Tenpin
Bowling Federation, said they were looking forward
to competing on their home lanes.
“This
is a great opportunity for Northern Ireland to promote
tenpin bowling as a Commonwealth sport, and the
chance to host a very prestigious event. We are
confident that all the competitors will enjoy their
stay in Northern Ireland and experience the friendliness
of the people and natural beauty of the country.”
The
fourth Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championships
take place at the Dundonald International Ice Bowl
from 23 – 30 November. The Dundonald International
Ice Bowl hosted the AMF Bowling World Cup in 1996.

IMPORTANT NEWS
Unfortunately, we have not received any applications
for the vacant position of CEO. This is obviously a
great threat to the future of our sport and the Board
is considering what can be done to keep TBNZ operational
once Craig steps down at the end of the month. If you
have any ideas please email them to graham@tbnz.co.nz
Whatever solution is found, it is imperative that we
try to reduce any unnecessary workload on the CEO role.
Currently the main source of this extra workload is
the CEO also having to do funding applications. While
you may think you could not be our CEO, perhaps you
could be our Funding Officer. If you could, this would
be a great help. Please see Funding
Officer job description to see what is involved.
If you want to know more about the CEO role please see
the CEO
job description.
Please contact graham@tbnz.co.nz
if you have any interest in either position.

2008
TBNZ Championships
The 2008 TBNZ Championships were held at Tenpin 13th
Ave, Tauranga, over Queens Birthday weekend. Lots of
really exciting bowling was witnessed on a challenging
lane pattern, which rewarded good decision-making and
good execution, as 150 bowlers from all around New Zealand
fought for National Champion honours and spots on the
New Zealand Teams travelling to the Australian Nationals
in Canberra in October. The
highlight of the qualifying was Megan Fletcher &
Julieanne Mollet shooting 1382 in the ladies doubles,
a combined average of 230, winning by 170 pins beating
all the mens doubles combinations, and beating the
ladies doubles nationals record by 160 pins.
In
other results, Kurt Sturgess & Adrian Judd won
the mens doubles with 1342, Rosie Moka & Leanne
Delamore won the Graded Doubles with 1287 including
handicap.
Phil
Wright set the pace in the Mens Singles early with
1299, an average of 216, and stayed on top till the
end. Zoe Godfrey also set a cracking pace early in
the Ladies Singles with 1223, again staying on top
till the end, only matched very late by Ivena Heald.
Boyce Wong prevailed in the Graded Singles with a
score of 1366 including handicap.
In
the Mens Teams, Jason Waters, Brodie Hunt, Gregorio
Nicolas, Anthony Harris & Tony Lum prevailed with
a score of 2985. This was expected, as all 5 are part
of the New Zealand team travelling to the Mens World
Champs in Thailand in August. Paula Campbell, Melonie
Lister, Amanda Kebblewhite, Jennifer Edwards &
Julieanne Mollet won the Ladies teams with 2799, and
Ned Perika, Peter Jones, Liezel Luxford, Geoff Kitson
& Andrew Valentine took out the Graded Teams with
a record score of 3266 including handicap.
In
the All Events, Anthony Harris proved himself to be
the man to beat in the Mens division, winning with
a total of 2519 at an average of 210. Julieanne Mollet
bowled an average of 202 in taking out the Ladies
All Events by 127 pins, and Ned Perika prevailed in
a very tight Graded All Events division, bowling a
total of 2600 at an average of 216 including handicap.
In
the Senior All Events, Phil Wright took out the Mens
division with a total of 2434, and Ivena Heald took
out the Ladies division with a total of 2243.
The
highest game bowled during qualifying was a 269 game
bowled by Matt Williamson, a graded bowler from Whangaparaoa,
in the teams event.
For
a while, the Mens Masters looked like it was going
to be one of the closest in years, with 5 bowlers
all within striking distance of the lead at the half
way point. But Pete Richardson stole a break on the
field in games 11&12 when he bowled 254 and 279,
and was never headed from there. Adrian Judd’s
perfect 300 game in the last game got him up to 2nd,
and top qualifier Anthony Harris finished 3rd.
In
the National Champion race which includes All Events
and Masters combined, it looked as though the buffer
Anthony Harris took into the Masters was going to
see him through. However Pete Richardson’s big
games proved he had what it took to challenge for
the title, and the finishing order was the same as
in the Masters. Phil Wright took out the Senior National
Champion title, ahead of Fred Housham and Stu Turnbull.
In
the Ladies division, Julieanne Mollet continued her
domination of the field from the All Events, winning
both the Masters and National Champion title comfortably
ahead of Ivena Heald. Megan Fletcher finished 3rd
in the Masters and Belinda Tan finished 3rd in the
National Champion race. Ivena Heald proved she was
far and away the best senior lady in attendance, winning
the Senior Ladies National Champion title ahead of
Rhonda Colyer and Dianne Robinson.
In
the Graded division, Melissa Anderson stunned the
field in her first tournament to win the Masters ahead
of Bo Saetear and Matt Williamson. Bo held out to
win the National Champion honours ahead of Matt Williamson
and a fast finishing Melissa Anderson, who started
in 10th place but finished 3rd.
All
in all it was a hugely successful tournament, played
in a great spirit by all participants. We look forward
to more of the same at next year’s event at
Tenpin Lincoln Road, Auckland, on Queens Birthday
weekend 2009.

Tauranga
Seniors Winter Tournament
The Inaugural Tauranga Seniors Tournament Series event
– the 2008 Tauranga Seniors Winter Tournament
– was held at Tenpin 13th Ave in Tauranga, over
the weekend of June 28-29, 2008, and attracted a field
of 22 bowlers from all over the North Island. The
format was a simple one, all bowlers bowl 18 games
over 2 days, with the highest overall pinfall winning
the title.
On
Day 1, Phil Wright from Hamilton set the early pace
with a 211 average over the ten games bowled, comfortably
ahead of Graham Parkins from Tauranga on a 199 average
and Stu Turnbull from Tauranga on a 194 average. Ivena
Heald from Wellington was the highest placed female
in the field with a 193 average, ahead of Glennis
Rolton from Tauranga on a 183 average and Sandy Hoare
from Rotorua on a 178 average.
On
Day 2, Phil Wright kept the cracking pace going, and
proved that winning the Senior Mens National Champion
title at the TBNZ Champs a month ago was no fluke.
He finished with a total pinfall of 3751, an average
of 208 over 18 games, and 203 pins clear of Graham
Parkins in 2nd place. Ivena Heald moved up to 3rd
with a pinfall of 3456, an average of 192, and remained
the highest placed female, also showing why she won
the Senior Ladies National Champion title at the TBNZ
Champs. Glennis Rolton remained 2nd out of the female
competitors, 8th overall, with a 185 average, and
Sandy Hoare remained 3rd out of all the ladies, maintaining
her 178 average.
All
in all it was a very successful tournament, and lots
of fun was had by all competitors. The 2008 Tauranga
Seniors Spring Tournament is scheduled for November
29-30, we hope to see everybody back for more fun
and good times.

CEO Resignation
It is with much sadness that the Board has accepted
the resignation of our Chief Executive Officer (CEO),
Craig Nevatt. Craig has made his decision because in
recent times he has been far too over burdened by the
demands of the CEO workload, on top of an already very
busy work and private life. Craig has worked tirelessly
for TBNZ and the betterment of bowling over several
years. He has achieved a tremendous amount since the
creation of TBNZ. He will be sorely missed by all those
who worked with him. The Board wishes to thank Craig
for everything that he has done for TBNZ. We have enjoyed
working with him and appreciate his contributions that
have made our job easier to do and more rewarding. We
will miss working with him in the future and expect
he will be hard to replace.
We wish you, "All the best for your future Craig".

National Bowling Tour
- Stop 3 Bowland
Porirua was the venue for round three of the National
Bowling Tour. Bowlers from Auckland to Invercargill
were represented at the tournament, providing a competitive,
multi- levelled field in each division. Friday and
Saturday were devoted to single and multiple qualifying
attempts and for those who adapted and played to the
lanes conditions, competing in the Masters was their
reward.
Jordan
Pinker, Belinda Tan, Fred Housham and Kyle Oliver
were the top qualifiers in their respective divisions.
The Masters on the Sunday proved to be interesting,
with positions changing constantly in some divisions.
The youth division saw young talented bowler Jordan
Pinker from Rotorua finishing on top with Jason Moka
and Corey Johnson finishing second and third respectively.
The
seniors division proved to be a close finish with
recently-returned back-to-bowling Phil Wright winning
the seniors division just 11 pins ahead of Fred Housham,
with Rob Pollock finishing in third place.
Youth
bowler Bianca Tofila backed up her win from the Manakau
round and won the ladies division ahead of Megan Fletcher
and Julieanne Mollet. Defending champion from the
same round last year, James Kelly proved he was the
one to beat this year, eventually winning the men's
division ahead of Tony Lum with young bowler Paul
Housham proving he can match it with the adults finishing
in third place.

National Bowling Tour- Stop 2
Auckland’s
Tenpin Lincoln Road was the second stop-over of the
National Bowling Tour. On day one the keys to qualifying
for “the Masters” were having multiple
attempts and adapting to the ever-changing lane conditions.
Adrian
Judd, Julieanne Mollet, Paul Watts, and Jordan Pinker
all finished at the top of their respective divisions
and, along with 36 other qualifiers, moved through
to the Masters on day two, when the first to compete
were the women and youth divisions.
Young
Brent Brooks from Rotorua took out the youth division
with an impressive 190 average, ahead of Shane Chan
and top qualifier Jordan Pinker. The women’s
division proved to be a very close finish, with it
all coming down to the last game between the top three
competitors. Belinda Tan held out in the face of strong
challenges from Jennifer Edwards and Julieanne Mollet,
eventually winning by just a three pin margin.
Then
came the seniors’ and the men’s divisions.
Bill Hayward won the seniors, ahead of Stu Turnbull
and Graham Parkins. Like the women’s division,
the men’s winner was not decided until the last
game, with Sonny Reguerra and Russell Young fighting
it out to the end. Sonny was eventually the victor
by 8 pins, while third place went to Charlie Ha.
Next
stop, Wellington, on May 16-18.

Volunteers Wanted
TBNZ
is reliant on the generous contribution of numerous
volunteers to deliver to its membership on the
objectives set down in the TBNZ constitution.
Whilst all TBNZ's volunteers are hard working,
they all contribute different amounts of time
to different activities depending on their other
personal commitments. For TBNZ to continue to
build on the achievements and progress made
over the past 3.5 years more volunteers are
required. Most of the roles which we are seeking
volunteers don't require the volunteer to be
located in Auckland. In fact we would encourage
volunteers located in other areas to assist
TBNZ to further develop TBNZ as the National
Body. If you are interested in contributing
to the development of Tenpin Bowling in New
Zealand please consider the job descriptions
of the vacant positions. Should you be interested
in filling any of the roles listed or believe
that you can contribute to TBNZ in some other
way please contact Craig Nevatt at craig@tbnz.co.nz

2008 TBNZ National Teams Champs.
Nine
regional teams from around New Zealand and one representative
team from the Australian Defence Forces converged
on Bowland, Porirua over Easter weekend to participate
in the 2008 National Team Championships.
Held over 3 days and on two different lane patterns,
all bowlers found the lane conditions very challenging.
This was reflected in the bowlers averages with only
one bowler, Auckland's Craig Nevatt, managing to bowl
over a 200 average. Craig was the top male AllStar
with Wairua's Sharon Pinker as the top female.
The lead for both the male, female and overall standings
changed constantly up until the last day. Last year's
defending champions Waitakere proved they were the
team to beat, finally taking out all divisions, and
were again crowned the 2008 Championship Team. Auckland
and hosts Wellington finished second and third respectively.

2008 QubicaAMF World Cup NZ Finals
Tenpin
Lincoln Road was the host for the New Zealand final
of the Bowling World Cup to find one man and one women
to represent New Zealand at this year's World Cup
finals to be held in Mexico.
After
a 4-week qualifying period 24 bowlers were found to
contest the NZ final over the weekend of March 8,9.
The weekend consisted of 16 games on two different
lane conditions on the Saturday to find the top 16
bowlers to go through to the masters held on the following
day.
Sunday
saw 14 men and 2 women go head to head for 15 games
on yet another lane condition with carried over pinfall.
Manukau National Bowling Tour winner Adrian Judd was
the top qualifier from the day before with Anthony
Harris and last year's defending champion Jason Waters
2nd and 3rd top qualifiers respectively.
Sunday
was an interesting day, scores and averages fluctuated
dramatically all day, the highlight being Craig Nevatt's
299 game against last year's winner Jason Water's
257. Newly- appointed New Zealand adult squad coach
Adrian Judd took out the title this year with a steady
211 average over the 15 games. Belinda Tan and Jennifer
Edwards were the only 2 ladies to contest the women's
title which turned into a fight to the end, Belinda
eventually winning on the day.
Both
Adrian Judd and Belinda Tan
will travel to Hermosillo, Mexico in November to represent
New Zealand in the 2008 Qubica AMF Bowling World Cup
Final.

National Bowling Tour Final - We

recently presented, we have decided that the National
Bowling Tour Final will be included in the TBNZ National

2008
TBNZ National Teams Champs.
This
Easter, an invitational team from Australia will join
teams from all over New Zealand to contest the 2008
National Teams Champs, in a 3 day head to head contest
to find the 2008 National Teams Champion. This will
be held at Bowland Porirua from Friday March 21 to
Sunday March 23.
The
teams will represent the following regions: North
Harbour, Waitakere, Auckland, Manukau, Kaimai, Wairua,
Wellington, Canterbury and Southern, with a team from
the Australian Defence Forces filling the vacancy
left by the absent Central team. Last year’s
Champions Waitakere are sure to be pushed very hard
in their efforts to defend their title.
Spectators
are welcome to turn up to Bowland Porirua to witness
the fantastic bowling and atmosphere for themselves.
But if you can't make it, full results will be posted
here
on a game by game basis, so you can keep track of

300
Game
Congratulations to Hayden Bool who bowled a perfect
game 300 on the 26th December 2007. This was achieved
at Garden City Bowl in the Summer Doubles league on
lanes 9 - 10.
National Bowling Tour- Stop 1,
Superstrike Manukau
Rotation, Rotation, Rotation, this was the key at
Superstrike Manukau over the weekend of Feb 22-24,
where maximum-pin-carry resulted in big scores as
the National Bowling Tour kicked off its 2008 season.
Corey
Johnson, Bill Hayward, Ivena Heald and Greg Nicholas
were the top qualifiers in their respective divisions
with averages ranging from 195 to 231.
The
Masters in all divisions produced a mixed bag, either
winners were not decided until the last game, or lead
from the first game, and a case of ‘catch me
if you can’.
Adrian Hoggard took out the youth division with a
192 average, ahead of Jordon Pinker and Ethan McKay.
Bill Hayward defended his Manukau title, averaging
192, just 20 pins ahead of Stu Turnball, with Allan
Heald finishing 3rd in the seniors division.
The
womens division proved to be a very close finish but
in the end youth bowler Bianca Tofilau took out the
title with a 203 average, just 3 pins ahead of Belinda
Tan. Megan Fletcher finished 3rd.
The
mens division, quite frankly, was a spectators dream
with some great bowling and high scoring all round.
Adrian Judd lead from the very first game and never
gave it up, with everybody fighting it out for 2nd
and 3rd spots. Judd finished on an impressive 240
average, 235 pins ahead of Russell Young, and Greg
Nicolas.

NATIONAL BOWLING TOUR FINAL - We
want to rank it.
Late
last year, TBNZ received a request from the centre
proprietors to include the National Bowling Tour Final
on our National Rankings. We have been discussing
this issue with the proprietors over the Holiday season

if this happens, and have come up with a proposal
on how to rank the final which we think is as fair
as possible to all parties involved. Please click

However,
we do not want to go any further without getting some
feedback from you, the bowlers, on this proposal.
We do not want to rank the final without a clear mandate
